You should understand that Payoneer always takes 1 dollar from every book royalty money sent to them by Amazon. Even if it’s $1.65. if it is $0.56, they usually take everything!
That’s a simple fact. Remember that Amazon pays royalties from each of her stores separately. That’s Amazon stores in the US, UK, Canada, etc. are paid separately to authors.
So if you sell a single book in the Amazon store in the US and you have a royalty of $1.67 sent to your Payoneer account, Payoneer takes $1 away from this. The same is done for every royalty paid from other stores from Amazon.
This is one of the issues using Payoneer as a middle party but we have no better option as Nigerians.
Other options of Payment by Amazon
The other option of Payment by Amazon to Nigerian authors is by Check.
We can’t opt for check payment. Amazon won’t pay untill you make $100 or €100 etc. From each Amazon store in different countries.
Amazon will not add your royalties from each store together to make a whole so that you can reach the $100 threshold on time. This is a big issue for Nigerian authors.
The way out for Amazon and Payoneer payment for Nigerian authors
Now, what we think is the way out for Amazon and Payoneer payment for Nigerian authors is if Nigerian authors stop Amazon from paying them monthly into Payoneer. It can be quarterly or semi-annually.
The reason for this is because you should have earned enough to make up for the commission of Payoneer by the time your royalty gets into your Payoneer account. Remember Payoneer takes $1 every time whether it’s $1.3 or $45.5.
Nigerian authors must also begin to do adequate marketing of their published books on Amazon. Gone are the days when you leave your books on Amazon without giving them the marketing push.
The more proper marketing, the more sales, and the more royalties.
