What is 2-step verification on Amazon?
2-step verification on Amazon is the setting up of a 2-step verification where Amazon will send an OTP code to your phone or an Authenticator app anytime you want to gain access to your Amazon account on a new device.
You will also need this when you want to gain access to the Account section of your Amazon KDP account.
Setting up 2-step verification on Amazon KDP using Google authenticator app
These days Amazon has not been able to send OTP codes to authors’ phone numbers. So lots of authors are now switching to the option of using an authenticator app.
For the purpose of this tutorial, I will be using the Google authenticator app. Now let’s go.
What is the function of the Google authenticator app?
It is an extra security system to prevent unauthorized access to your Amazon account after it has been registered.
We will need the authenticator app to get 2-step OTP codes whenever we want to gain access to your Amazon account or whenever we want to access the Account section of your Amazon account.
How does Google authenticator app works with Amazon?
So this is how it works, whenever you login to your account on a new device or if anybody tries to login to your Amazon account without your knowledge, Amazon will send OTP codes to the Google authenticator app on your phone.
You will be asked to pick it up and enter it into a rectangular box to gain access to your Amazon account.
You will then quickly go to your Google authenticator app, open it and locate the OTP codes and quickly enter it into the rectangular box and then you will be able to gain access to your Amazon account.
In the past, Amazon used to send the OTP codes to authors’ phone numbers but these codes don’t get delivered again to phones. This is the reason for the authenticator app to be installed on your phone to receive the OTP codes.

How to connect the Google authenticator app to your Amazon account (step 1)
Now, this is what you are going to do with the Google authenticator app on your phone.
Register on the authenticator app
Register on the app with your email address. Use your Gmail address to register on the app. I will show in a video shortly how to install the Google authenticator app on your phone.
Visit Amazon page
Visit https://amazon.com to register an account with Amazon.
Click Sign In
When get to the page above, click Sign In. See the yellow circle in the image below:
Click Create New Account
When you get to the page. Click Create New Account. See the image below:
Complete the registration by filling in the simple information above.
When you have registered please take note of your phone number or the email you entered and the password you used.
You will need these details to login into your Amazon KDP account.
