Our publishing journey with Babelcube

Our publishing and book marketing journey with Babelcube started in 2019. It has been a very rewarding journey. We got books translated to many languages and distributed.
We also sold lots of books. See the image above. So sad Babelcube is shutting down finally. I will write more on our publishing and book marketing journey with Babelcube in another post or in a video on our YouTube channel at Solution TV Ng.
Details of the Partial Shutdown of Babelcube
These are the details of the Babelcube shutdown as announced on their website.
Details Babelcube shutdown partially
Babelcube has stopped taking on new work. It has not shut down: everything already published or under way continues, and we continue to pay royalties. This page sets out exactly what that means, first for authors and rights holders, then for translators.
In short, for everybody
No new accounts can be created.
Existing accounts still work. Sign in as you always have.
No new books, no new translation offers, no new translating teams.
The public site — the book pages, author and translator profiles, and the marketing pages — has been retired.
Translations already in progress can still be completed and published.
Books already published stay on sale and keep earning.
Royalties continue to be collected and paid on the same schedule and the same terms.
If you are an author or rights holder
Your published translations
They stay on sale at the retailers that carry them and continue to earn royalties, which we continue to pay you as before. Nothing about your existing agreements changes, and we are not taking your books down.
Your translation agreements
Each agreement runs for five years and renews after that unless you request its cancellation. For translations that were published, that renewal continues as it always has.
Where a translation was never published, the agreement will not be renewed. It ends at the end of its term and the translation rights return to you, free of any obligation to us. We will email everybody involved when this happens.
Translations still in progress
Work can continue and can still be published. The publishing tools in your account are unchanged. A translation that reaches publication before its agreement ends keeps that agreement, and is treated like any other published book from then on.
Your book and profile pages
Book pages and author profile pages are no longer published on the public site. Your books, your translations and your profile information are all still in your account, and your published books remain listed at the retailers that sell them.
What you can no longer do
Add a new book to the catalogue.
Search for translators, or ask a translator to translate one of your books.
Accept a new offer from a translator.
You can still cancel or decline anything that is already outstanding, and you can still manage the books and translations you have.
If you are a translator
Your published translations
They stay on sale and continue to earn you your share of the royalties, paid as before. Your existing agreements are unaffected.
Translations you are working on now
You can finish them and deliver them as before, and we would encourage you to complete work you have started. Publishing is done by the author, so once you have delivered your translation it is up to them to publish it. A translation that is published before its agreement ends keeps that agreement — and keeps earning you royalties for as long as it sells.
If an agreement reaches the end of its five-year term with the translation still unpublished, it will not be renewed and will end. We will email you when that happens.
Your public profile
Translator profile pages are no longer published on the public site. Your profile information is still in your account, and still visible to the authors you are working with.
What you can no longer do
Browse or search the catalogue for books to translate.
Offer to translate a book.
Create a new translating team, or join one.
You can still leave a team you are in, and still cancel or decline anything already outstanding.
Money
We pass royalties on to you on the usual schedule. Our terms pay out a balance once it reaches the minimum of $10; balances below that continue to accumulate as royalties come in, exactly as they did before.
Your royalty statements, your ledger and your payment and tax details all remain available in your account.
Thank you for everything you built with us.
What Meta AI said about the Babelcube shutdown partially story
I asked Meta AI about the Babelcube shutdown partially story and this what I got below:
Yes, brother – I checked. Babelcube has NOT officially announced a shutdown, but it is almost the same as stopped for many authors right now.
This is what is happening in 2025-2026:
*1. Lots of complaints:*
Authors and translators are reporting:
– Royalties not paid for months
– Royalty reports and tax documents not sent
– Rights not reverted even when requested
– No reply from support to emails 3d93
Writer Beware updated this on *July 14, 2026* – they said an author told them they can neither cancel their account nor cancel translations 3d93
*2. Reviews are very bad recently:*
On Trustpilot, people say “They won’t cancel agreement after it’s expired & requested to cancel” and “The agreement expired… it has been automatically extended for one year”, and translators say they never received money. eb7e
*3. Why people think it stopped:*
Because AI translation is now very cheap, KDP is trialing its own AI translation, so many think the writing is on the wall for Babelcube and similar platforms. The site is still up at http://babelcube.com, but support is ghosting people. 3d93
*What you should do if your books are there:*
1. Save all your emails and agreements
2. Send a formal termination email (keep proof) and request rights reversion in writing
3. Check if your books are still selling on Amazon/Kobo – if they are after expiry, you can file DMCA
4. Don’t upload new books there for now – use direct translators on Upwork, Fiverr, or Reedsy instead
