Can Nigerians publish and sell ebooks on Amazon?

Yes, Nigerians can publish and sell ebooks on Amazon. We are Nigerians and we have successfully sold lots of ebooks on Amazon. We have also done the same for lots of Nigerians.
So, you should be rest assured that the remaining parts of this post will show you what you need to know to sell books on Amazon from Nigeria.
How to sell books on Amazon from Nigeria: Step by step guide
The following will show how to sell books on Amazon from Nigeria
1. Register an Amazon KDP account
The first thing you have to do is to register an Amazon KDP account. You can register an Amazon KDP account
You wil only need your email and full names to start the process. When you get to that, click on Sign in.
2. Use an authenticator app to complete registration
This is where many Nigerian authors have problems. We have had to help lots of Nigerian authors who want to punlishe books on Amazon with this.
What is the problem here?
For you to complete you registration on Amazon, at a point, Amazon will send a code to your phone number which you must use to complete registration.
The problem is that this sms code will never arrive your phone message inbox. I don’t know why this is so, but that is the case.
What is the way out?
Amazon recommend that authors should use an authenticator app to get this done.
Please read this post on how to use authenticator app to Set up 2-step verification on Amazon
3. Complete the account settings
After you are done with registration and you have logged into your Amazon KDP dashboard, you have to complete your account settings in Amazon by providing information like:
- Your full names
- Your phone numbers
- Your full address
- Your zip code
- Etc.
You will also be required to fill the tax questionnaire.
Don’t worry these are all simple processes that can be done by a 5- year old.
You should note that before you can get to the account settings, you will click on Account tab in your dashboard and you will be required to use the authenticator app which you have connected to your account earlier to login again.
In fact, you will have to do this every time you try to login to your account or enter into the account settings in your dashboard.
4. Basics you need to know in filling the account settings
As a Nigerian author intending to publish and sell books on Amazon, you will need the following information to successfully fill the account settings and fill the tax questionnaire.
- You can use your Nigerian address
- Use the zip code: 234000
- You can use your Nigerian phone number
- Ensure you fill in the right date of birth
- For the tax section, when you get to the box where you will fill the Tax Identification Number (TIN), you should pick the option that you don’t have a TIN.
- For the bank account, you should choose the check option except if you have bank accounts you use in the USA, UK, or other countries eligible for this. Nigerian bank accounts are not accepted!
5. On receiving royalties
Still on bank accounts or how to receive royalties from Amazon, I advised above that you pick the option of check payment. You can always change this later.
Amazon will actually send your check to your Nigerian address when your royalties reach the $100 or £100 or €100 payment threshold. The issue is that this payment threshold is a tough hurdle for Nigerian authors to get to immediately.
So Nigerian authors who want to publish and sell ebooks on Amazon must find a way out to receive their royalties from Amazon at a far less threshold.
There are options you can consider for this. See them below:
Use Payoneer
Amazon and Payoneer payment for Nigerian authors
How do I register a Payoneer account
Choose Amazon gift cards
You can also pick the option of Amazon gift cards. With this option, your royalties is converted to gift cards which you can use to purchase goods in Amazon.
Use a friend’s bank account in US or UK etc
You can also use a trusted friend’s bank account in the US or UK or in a country whose bank accounts are accepted by Amazon.
Well, I don’t have to remind you that you must ensure this friend is a trusted one. We use a friend like this to receive our royalties from Amazon.
